HB209 Lake Martin’s New Proximity Law

Lake Martin is implementing a new proximity law affecting all boaters from October 1st, 2024. The law prohibits any motorized boat from operating above idle speed within 100 feet of any shoreline, dock, pier, boathouse, or other structure. It also restricts wakeboarding and wakesurfing within 200 feet of any shoreline, dock, pier, boathouse or other structure and in areas less than 400′ wide. The law will be enforced through education, directed patrol, and warnings for first offenses for one year. As boaters, learn to judge the distance, get familiar with landmarks, and use technological assistance to avoid violating the law.
