Electric Shock Detection For Your Swimming Area
In March of 2024 Lake Martin Boaters partnered with Wavelink Secure to test their Electric Shock Detection Device on Lake Martin. Our pier has a lot of electricity including boat lifts, a security system, a fishing light in the water and power for lighting, etc., so there is always the fear that electricity could somehow end up in the water. The Wavelink Secure device has an audible alarm, a light to indicate the current condition as well as an app that notifies of any dangerous level of electricity.  It took about an hour for professional installation. Here’s a quick look at our install and some of the features of the device.
From the manufacturer; The WaveLink Secure Hub monitors your dock and the surrounding water for dangerous levels of electricity. When WaveLink Secure detects electricity in the water, it sounds an audible alarm, activates a visual beacon on the dock, and sends an alert to your smartphone through the WaveLink Secure app.
WaveLink Secure identifies the unique fingerprint of electricity from the grid and other sources. This enables the patented machine-learning algorithm to recognize dangerous electricity with unmatched accuracy.
Competing devices, which rely on technology from the 1950s, look for a simple voltage differential in water, often generating false positives when identifying electricity in a swimming area. This can lead installers to manage false alerts by reducing sensitivity, resulting in only a few square feet of the swimming area being protected. Dock owners are usually unaware of this compromise, which can lead to a false sense of security.
Does it work?
In July of 2024 we had the Wavelink crew out to our dock with a stick carrying 120 volts of electricity to shock the water and see if the device would really work… I went live on Facebook and here’s what happened…
Highly Recommend
Wavelink Secure is one of those inventions that you didn’t know you needed until tragedy strikes.  We have gained a greater sense of security having our family and friends swim around our pier without the fear of electricity in the water. Shortly after we did the live test on Lake Martin Boaters Facebook Community, they had a device on Lake Martin that detected electricy in the water and alerted the homeowner. Dangerous levels of electricity can result in an electric shock drowning. Here are the electricians that responded;Â
