After the Storm: Football and Calm Mornings on the Lake

Calm Mornings on Lake Martin

After the Storm: Football and Calm Mornings on Lake Martin

by Jamie Burnett

Looking at the lake this morning, I’m reminded that there’s always a calm that comes after a storm. A stillness on the water once the chaos subsides. Whether that comes from a summer storm over Lake Martin or from a Saturday night in the SEC, the feeling on Sunday morning is the same.

Football in the South isn’t so different from a storm. Theres the buildup, intensity, excitement, and sometimes disappointment. There’s an energy you can feel. The sky lights up like a college stadium, thunder echoing like the roar of 100k people. One play or one bad call can shake the whole state. But by Sunday morning, the calm returns. Hearts settle back into rhythm. We find our way to the dock again, coffee in hand or maybe a Diet Coke, watching the fish break the glass surface of the lake.

Maybe that’s the lesson both storms and football keep teaching us, no matter how crazy it gets, the calm always returns. The sky and the stadium clear. The lake rests and so do we on a Sunday.

XOXO
Jamie
